The mission of the ProStart Program is to prepare students for college and meaningful career and inspire students to pursue further training or education.
Program Description
ProStart is a 3-year program that prepares students for college and careers in the foodservice industry. Students develop basic culinary and foodservice skills through participation in experiential learning. Core subjects such as language arts, math, and science are integrated and learned within the context of food and cooking. Project-based learning, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and employment skills are incorporated into the program coursework. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn the National Restaurant Association certificates in ServSafe, Customer Service, Nutrition, Purchasing, the ACT National Career Readiness certificate, and GCC’s Certificate of Mastery. The Certificate of Mastery allows students to earn up to fifteen (15) free college credits applicable to the A.A. Culinary Arts or A.S. Foodservice Management degree at the Guam Community College.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Master basic culinary and foodservice skills.
- Apply technology literacy through completion of a web-based, culinary-focused portfolio.
- Demonstrate workplace soft skills in various culinary and foodservice settings
